The Falcons are delighted to announce that three of their Academy players have been selected to join the inaugural NFL Academy. Running back Donell Irungo, centre Dre Ngome and wide receiver Hadi Ibrahimi, all 16 years old, will join the prestigious programme in September.
The NFL Academy is based at Barnet & Southgate College, London. Students will receive elite coaching in American Football alongside their sixth form education, with the opportunity to apply for university scholarships in the US. It also provides a route into the NFL International Player Pathway, where overseas players are evaluated by NFL teams.
“To be accepted into the NFL Academy is a huge blessing” said Irungo. “I plan to work as hard as I can to make my dream of one day playing in the NFL come true”.
Ibrahimi said “Words can’t express how happy I am to be a part of this. I’m super excited, and of course the dream is to make it to the next level of American Football.”
Ngome added “It still hasn’t sunk in yet that I am a part of this and how positively it will impact me as a person and my future.”
The boys were all new to American Football two years ago when they joined the Falcons Academy, which operates out of Fullhurst College in Leicester.
“We have been lucky to have these lads for two years where we have seen them grow and develop into the players they are today” said Academy Head Coach Ryan Cummings. “We could not be more proud of them and believe they can go all the way to the NCAA”.
Leicester Falcons Academy will be recruiting in the Autumn for next season. They run both under 17 and under 19 teams, and interested players should contact them through Facebook.
