NFL star to coach Leicester Falcons

NFL Quarterback sensation Deshaun Watson is hosting a one-off QB coaching clinic in Leicester – at the Falcon‘s first pre-season friendly versus the Oxford Saints!

The Houston Texans star man will be passing on his knowledge and experience on the morning of Sunday 24th March (at Leicester Falcons new ground the TMDP Park in Blaby) prior to kick off at 14.30pm and to the Falcons senior squad, but also specially invited guests from around the country.

What’s more, accompanying him is Quarterback guru Quincey Avery, who mentored Watson in his early years and is credited with the advent of the more mobile and ‘dual-threat’ quarterback who are equally adept at throwing and running the football.

It’s all part of a US documentary series that Watson is filming across Europe and he will also be staying on after the QB coaching clinic for a meet-and-greet session and catching some of the Falcons v Saints game.

Leicester Falcons President, Guy Kersey, says: “This is a real coup for us as Deshaun is one of the most exciting young talents in the NFL and a real crowd pleaser because of his maverick, attacking style. Our quarterbacks especially are chomping at the bit to get some quality time with him and he’ll be passing on lots of high level tips around mechanics, movement and technique.

“I know the film’s producer through my work, but he and Deshaun have also heard good things about our new and progressive American Football Graduate Scholar partnership with the neighbouring University of Derby and Baker University in Kansas, so it was a natural fit for both parties.

“The first Baker scholars who have recently joined us will also be doing a podcast called Launch Mode which Deshaun will feature in, so that should be something to really look out for as well.”

Just 23-years-old and entering his third year with the Texans, Deshaun Watson already holds many NFL rookie QB records, but in 2018/19 he became the first player in NFL history to record at least 4,000 yards and 25 passing touchdowns and rush for 500 yards and five touchdowns in a single season.

The Leicester Falcons v Oxford Saints pre-season friendly kicks off at 2.30pm on Sunday 24th March with tickets costing just £5 (under 16s free) and payable on the gate.
