Falcons to help make BUCS final buzz

Falcons President Guy Kersey has been brought in as event manager for the college American Football showpiece for 2019 – as organisers look to create a much improved and interactive atmosphere inside a more intimate venue.

He has organised and run highly successful senior Britbowls before and is an experienced events professional with his own specialist company in this field, so the BUCS finals (which have been confirmed for nearby Loughborough University’s state-of-the-art Rugby Rubber Crumb on Sunday 31st March) will benefit greatly from his expertise.

The premier league and division one finals both take place on the same day (on an international-standard surface that regularly hosts National League 1 and Tyrrell’s Premier League matches) and both BUCS and BAFA are looking towards a more festival/carnival ambience – with the emphasis on American-style excitement and entertainment both on and off the pitch that will appeal to students, families and sports fans alike.

Both raised standing for 2,000 extra people and a temporary stand for another 400 spectators will be added, as will a 9.5m LED screen to show replays and highlights. The two finals will also be live streamed on the BUCS You Tube channel and Facebook page.

The music, food and drink offering will be bigger and better, including an outdoor bar, pizza, hotdog and burger outlets, as well as Leicester’s legendary Plukd Chicken, plus there will be a first floor indoor retail and exhibition area for the purchase of merchandise and memorabilia, overlooking the pitch.

Jenny Morris, Head of Sport Delivery & Performance for BUCS, says: “We’re absolutely thrilled at the prospect of heading to Loughborough for the first time for the BUCS American Football Championship and Trophy Finals 2019. Loughborough is a university and a town synonymous with sporting prowess and the venue will undoubtedly provide a thrilling spectacle for players, coaches, and fans alike.

“The stage is once again set for a showcase event highlighting the very best within University American Football; we’re confident this one at Loughborough University will be the best yet!”

BAFA Operations Director, Steve Rains, adds: “We are delighted to be organising the hosting of the American Football Finals day on behalf of BUCS, at a renowned and revered sporting facility which will provide all in attendance with an amazing and rewarding experience. “The smaller, arena-style venue at Loughborough University should provide the finals with the adrenaline buzz and atmosphere they deserve and perhaps what has been missing somewhat from recent, less-than-full bigger stadium events.”
