Leicester Falcons succumbed to a heavy 47-6 defeat in their final game of the season against Edinburgh Wolves on Sunday. The result, combined with rivals Sheffield Giants’ tie with Merseyside Nighthawks, means that the Falcons are relegated after one season in the Premier Division.
The Falcons travelled to their longest away trip of the year with a small injury-hit squad, missing both starting safeties and their top two running backs. The Wolves quickly scored twice in the opening quarter with big gains on the ground and the Falcons could never find their rhythm. By the time Ashton Patterson ran in for a 30 yard touchdown, the game was already out of reach.
The loss means that the Falcons finish the season with a record of 2-8, leaving them just half a game adrift at the bottom of the table.
